Youth For Energy Futures 2025 Podcast Episode 1: Freiburg

This episode focuses on Freiburg, the first location of our trip. For the podcast, we collected impressions from our trip, interviewed the inspiring people we met and reflected on what we learned.
First, we spoke with Tanja Kenkmann, a senior researcher at Öko-Institute, about data on the gender-heating gap.
Next, we got insights into how Anna Heimsath and Dr Saskia Kühnhold-Pospischil are working to promote equal opportunities within the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, and why they received an award for their outstanding initiative.
Sandra Pfeifer explained her project “Klimaheldin im Handwerk” to us, where she supports women in climate–relevant crafts professions to advance climate protection and increase their long–term career growth.
The feminist architectural pilot project “Modellprojekt Stadt & Frau” was introduced by architect Ingeborg Thor-Klauser, who guided us through the project's story from the nineties to today.
Our last stop was the office of ICLEI, a global network of local and regional governments working on sustainability. There, we discussed opportunities and examples with the gender mainstreaming team and two members of their network from Umeå and Barcelona.
Together, we reflected on which ideas impressed us most, which thoughts left us with questions, and what we took with us for our work.
