Youth For Energy Futures 2025 Podcast Episode 2: Strasbourg

For the second part of the journey, we travelled to Strasbourg, where we met inspiring women working in very different political realities. In the city, bold feminist local politics co-exist with progressive energy and gender policies being stuck at the EU level, blocked by a conservative and right-wing majority.
At the EU Parliament, we met the French MEP Melissa Camara and the Italian MEP Benedetta Scuderi, both members of the European Greens. We learned what is and, more often, what isn’t currently possible regarding progressive feminist green politics.
The next day, underscoring the clash of political realities, we spoke with Christelle Wieder, the deputy mayor for gender equality on the Strasbourg city council, where bold approaches such as gender budgeting are being pursued.
Afterwards, the pedagogical project ‘Espace Égalité’ was introduced to us by Floriane Varieras, Strasbourg’s deputy mayor for an inclusive city. The learning space teaches children critical thinking and non-discrimination.
The episode ends with reflections on the week, with an emphasis on the importance of a holistic and intersectional – including gender dimensions – approach to the energy transition and on what still needs to be achieved. Thanks for listening!
